Description
ISOPON ZINC 182 Anti-Rust Primer 1L Tin Grey is a ready-to-use, single-component primer designed to help protect metal surfaces against rust and corrosion. It dries to form a tough, durable coating that provides a sound base for compatible paint systems, making it suitable for automotive repairs and general metal refinishing.
What Isopon ZINC 182 – Anti-Rust Primer is for
This primer is intended for priming ferrous metal surfaces, including steel body panels and metal components, before painting. It can also be used on properly prepared existing paintwork and polyester fillers. Removing loose rust before application helps improve its protective performance.
For preparing aluminium or galvanised steel before priming, use U-POL Acid Etch Primer to promote adhesion on these surfaces. For a different anti-corrosion primer option, explore the U-POL ZINC 182 Rust Inhibiting Primer range, available in different pack sizes.

How to apply
- Remove loose rust and clean the surface thoroughly, ensuring it is dry and free from grease and dust.
- Abrade bare mild steel with P180 grit; wet-sand cured original paint with P400 grit.
- For aluminium and zinc-coated steel, apply a suitable acid etch primer first and allow it to dry.
- Stir the ZINC 182 primer thoroughly before use.
- Apply by brush or dip directly. For spray application, add up to 10% suitable synthetic or cellulose thinner if needed to adjust viscosity.
- For spray application, use a compatible HVLP gravity gun with a 1.7–2.0mm tip and approximately 1.8–2.0 bar pressure.
- Apply 1–2 coats, allowing 3–4 hours between coats at 20°C.
- Leave to dry overnight before overpainting. Lightly abrade with P400 grit paper before applying the topcoat.
